Lovlina Borgohain Calls for Aid for Flood Victims in Assam

On Friday, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain visited victims affected by the floods in Golaghat, Assam, expressing her deep concern over the catastrophic situation. The region has been severely impacted, with extensive flooding reported as the Dhansiri and Doyang rivers overflowed, displacing numerous families who have sought refuge in relief camps.

Speaking to a news outlet, Borgohain highlighted the plight of many who have lost their homes and are currently without shelter, despite receiving essential supplies like food and clothing. She emphasized the urgent need for housing solutions to assist these families in their recovery.

"The conditions here are truly alarming; the devastation is visible everywhere. Homes have been entirely wiped out, leaving people in dire circumstances. Many are without roofs over their heads, forced to find makeshift sleeping spots. It raises concerns about how and when normalcy will return. Recovery will be a lengthy process," she stated.

"We sincerely hope for a swift improvement in the situation and that these individuals find the resilience to navigate this crisis. While they are receiving adequate food and clothing, the lack of homes to store these essentials is a significant issue. If the government could expedite housing provisions, it would bring immense relief," she added.

Borgohain Achieves First CWG Silver Medal

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Borgohain earned her first medal at the event, securing a silver in the women's 75kg boxing category. She faced a tough competition in the final against Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree. Both athletes raised their hands in anticipation at the end of the match, confident in their performance. However, after a suspenseful wait, the judges declared Greentree the winner with a 4-1 split decision, allowing Borgohain to add a Commonwealth Games silver to her impressive collection of accolades, which includes an Olympic bronze, multiple World Championship medals (including gold), an Asian Games silver, and several Asian Championship medals, including gold.
