Lovely Professional University Ends Partnerships with Turkiye and Azerbaijan for National Security
LPU Takes a Stand on National Interests
In a significant and principled action demonstrating national unity, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has become the first private institution in India to cancel all Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with universities in Turkiye and Azerbaijan.
The university has officially terminated six academic collaborations with these countries, citing recent geopolitical events that conflict with India's national interests.
This groundbreaking decision entails the immediate cessation of student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, dual degree programs, and all other academic partnerships with institutions from Turkiye and Azerbaijan. This action follows the pro-Pakistan stance taken by these nations amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, announced the decision, stating, “As our courageous armed forces put their lives on the line—whether in covert operations, air defense, or border patrol—we, as an educational institution, cannot remain apathetic.”
Dr. Mittal further emphasized, “LPU’s mission has always been to support the growth and integrity of India, and we will not partner with any institution that threatens India’s sovereignty. While diplomacy is the responsibility of governments, LPU’s actions convey a strong message: the academic community also has a moral obligation. National security must be upheld not just at borders but in every classroom, boardroom, and international collaboration.”
Previously, in light of the backlash against Turkiye, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) announced the suspension of its MoU with Inonu University in Turkiye, citing national security concerns.
In a statement shared on X, JNU declared, “Due to national security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University, Turkiye is suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the Nation.” This decision comes as public sentiment grows against Turkiye and Azerbaijan following their support for Pakistan after India’s recent military operation, ‘Operation Sindoor’.
