A woman from Louisiana is currently on the mend after experiencing a devastating genital injury during a rope swing activity in Honduras, which occurred on her inaugural Carnival cruise. Her boyfriend, Blake, recounted that the accident necessitated an emergency airlift back to the United States. The incident took place on the cruise's third day while Kirsten Lindsey was engaged in a shore excursion. Blake noted that a retrieval line seemed to have been incorrectly attached to the rope swing.

"The line abruptly tightened between Kirsten's legs just before her drop," Blake explained, labeling the injury as a catastrophic saddle injury. Initially, Lindsey thought she had merely sustained a minor scratch and returned to the dock. However, her condition worsened over the following hours, with swelling and pain escalating significantly. Blake mentioned that the injury eventually swelled to the size of a baseball.

Blake contacted emergency services from the ship, leading to Lindsey being treated at the vessel's medical center for several hours. The couple had to pay around $4,000 out of pocket for medical assistance before they could disembark. Lindsey's mother, Tara, revealed that she spent over 12 hours receiving care on board. The family later discovered that Costa Maya was the nearest location with airport access for an evacuation.

As Lindsey's health deteriorated, they were presented with three choices: stay in the ship's medical facility for the remainder of the cruise, go to a hospital in Mexico and arrange their own return, or opt for an emergency air evacuation to the U.S. They decided on the air evacuation, which Blake stated cost approximately $20,000 from Costa Maya, plus another $30,000 for the return trip to the U.S.

After being transported by ambulance to an airport, Lindsey was flown via private medical jet to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she was admitted to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital for her first surgery. Upon returning to Louisiana, she continued her treatment at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center and is currently preparing for a second surgery as she recovers from her injuries. The couple is now grappling with increasing medical bills, travel costs, and lost wages. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist Lindsey and her family during this challenging time, and they are seeking ongoing prayers and support.
