Accusations Against Non-Assamese Businessmen

Guwahati, June 26: The Jatiya Yuva Vahini, the youth faction of Raijor Dal, has accused a group of non-Assamese businessmen of contributing to the suicide of a local entrepreneur, Pawan Hazarika.

The organization claims that the government has neglected its duty to safeguard indigenous entrepreneurs from financial exploitation and threats.

During a press conference in Guwahati, spokesperson Ankuman Bordoloi stated, “Despite numerous assurances to protect local individuals, the government has not taken stringent measures against the non-indigenous traders involved. We have lost a promising young talent from Assam.”

Hazarika, reportedly in his early 30s, left a suicide note identifying three individuals—Ankit Kumar, Niloy, and Vikas Sisodia—linked to a financial dispute over Rs 60 lakh. Currently, police have detained only one of the suspects.

Bordoloi expressed concern over the investigation's sluggishness, questioning, “What kind of preliminary inquiry is this, where not all suspects have been apprehended?”

The youth group further alleged that two of the accused are being protected despite being named in the suicide note and by Hazarika's family.

“Whose interests are being served by shielding these non-indigenous businessmen? If the government cannot guarantee the safety of local citizens, is it merely here to safeguard its own interests?” Bordoloi remarked.

The organization also criticized the current business environment under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming that many coaching centers are now run by outsiders, leaving little opportunity for local entrepreneurs.

Demanding the immediate arrest of all three suspects, the Jatiya Yuva Vahini asserted that Hazarika was subjected to mental harassment that led him to take such a drastic step.

“If the government and police do not act decisively, we will have no choice but to protest against the harassment of Assamese youth by outside businessmen,” Bordoloi warned.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official update from the police regarding the investigation into Hazarika’s death.
