Local Teacher Pioneers Solar Energy Adoption in Goalpara's Dubapara
Transforming Dubapara: A Teacher's Journey to Sustainable Energy

Goalpara, Oct 14: In the once-quiet area of Dubapara, located about 11 kilometers from the Goalpara district center, a local educator is leading the charge toward a more sustainable future as the area evolves into a vibrant urban center.
Shozim Uddin, a dedicated schoolteacher, has been utilizing solar energy to power his home for the last 15 years, becoming a local role model for sustainable practices and clean energy use.
His journey into energy independence began 15 years ago during his visits to remote char (riverine) regions. There, he noticed small solar lighting systems illuminating homes in areas with little to no access to the traditional power grid.
Fascinated by the possibilities of solar energy for daily needs, Uddin started collaborating with the technical teams responsible for these installations, gaining insights into photovoltaic technology and battery storage.
At that time, Dubapara faced significant challenges with unreliable electricity supply and frequent outages that disrupted daily life. Believing that solar energy could be the answer to the community's ongoing energy issues, Uddin decided to implement the technology in his own home.
Despite facing logistical challenges, he successfully acquired six solar panels from Bengaluru, establishing an initial off-grid solar system to meet his household's energy needs.
What began as a necessity-driven experiment gradually transformed into a strong commitment to sustainable living. As solar technology progressed and government initiatives evolved, Uddin continually upgraded his home energy system.
Currently, he benefits from the central government's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which has enabled him to install a modern on-grid rooftop solar power system.
This setup allows his household to produce clean electricity on-site, significantly reducing his monthly energy costs and reliance on conventional power from the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited.
Uddin's 15-year journey—from witnessing basic solar lamps in remote communities to managing a sophisticated grid-connected solar home—demonstrates the significant impact that individual initiative and determination can have on environmental sustainability.
Moreover, his story underscores how effective government welfare programs like the PM Surya Ghar initiative can empower everyday citizens to embrace clean energy solutions.
In the rapidly evolving landscape of Dubapara, Shozim Uddin's solar-powered home serves as a powerful example of a future where renewable energy is seamlessly integrated into daily life.
