Local Tailor Honored for Two Decades of Traffic Management Service
A Humble Hero in Traffic Control
Doomdooma, Feb 25: A remarkable act of altruism that has persisted for over twenty years in Makum has finally gained the recognition it deserves, thanks to a recent report highlighting the contributions of a dedicated tailor who has been managing traffic voluntarily.
Deepak Das, affectionately known as Deepak Darji, has been aiding in traffic regulation at the police checkpoint on Digboi Road for an impressive 26 years. Each day, from 2 PM to 8 PM, this 58-year-old dons his khaki uniform to facilitate smoother vehicular movement, collaborating closely with law enforcement, despite not being a Home Guard volunteer.
As a tailor, Deepak earns a modest income ranging from Rs 200 to 500 daily, yet he has managed to juggle family duties alongside his steadfast commitment to community service. Locals credit him with instilling discipline and order in the often-chaotic traffic.
The story of this unsung hero first gained traction through a special report published on January 29, which sparked widespread admiration throughout the district, with many praising Deepak’s exceptional sense of civic duty.
In acknowledgment of his enduring voluntary efforts, Tinsukia Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar honored Deepak on February 22. Overjoyed by the unexpected recognition, the humble tailor expressed his joy but emphasized that his primary motivation has always been the convenience of the public, rather than accolades.
Even at the age of 58, Deepak's passion remains as strong as ever, serving as a testament to the idea that impactful public service often occurs away from the limelight—until, as in this instance, it is finally acknowledged.
