Local Scholar Dr. Indu Sharma Earns Ph.D. in Education, Inspiring Community
Celebrating Academic Excellence in Nyangal
Nyangal is celebrating a significant achievement as Dr. Indu Sharma, a remarkable individual from the village, has successfully completed her Ph.D. in Education from a private institution in Punjab, bringing pride to her family and the local community.
Her dissertation focused on “A Comparative Study of Excessive Smartphone Use Among Senior Secondary School Students of Different Streams in Relation to Their Study Habits and Academic Achievement.” This research spanned six districts in Himachal Pradesh: Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Solan, Mandi, and Shimla.
The results indicated that students in the Arts stream tend to utilize smartphones more than their peers in the Science stream. Additionally, a negative correlation was identified between high levels of non-academic smartphone usage and both study habits and academic performance, suggesting that increased time spent on smartphones for non-educational activities correlates with poorer study outcomes and lower grades.
Dr. Indu Sharma is the granddaughter of Late Shri Shivram and Smt. Jiyuni Devi and the daughter of Shri Gyan Chand and Smt. Veena Devi. She proudly stands as the first female in her family to earn a Ph.D.. Dr. Sharma attributes her success to the unwavering support, guidance, and blessings from her family, relatives, and esteemed educators.
Her accomplishment has been met with enthusiastic celebrations from the villagers and supporters, who have offered their congratulations and best wishes for her future endeavors. Dr. Sharma’s journey serves as a beacon of inspiration for students in the area.
