Community Leaders Push for At-Grade Intersection

A group led by social activist Mr. Bipin K. Mahajan, along with Mrs. Neeti Mahajan, who is the newly elected President of the Nurpur Municipal Council, presented a memorandum to the Project Director of NHAI in Palampur via the SDO (Civil) of Nurpur. The document requested the construction of an at-grade intersection (chowk) instead of the planned overbridge near Chinwan Road on the ongoing Nurpur Bypass Four-Lane project.

The delegation emphasized that Chinwan Road serves as a crucial access point for residents in wards 2, 4, 5, and 6 of Nurpur. They noted that the closest entry and exit points to the four-lane highway are located approximately 2.5 km away at Bod and Khushi Nagar, which forces locals to travel additional distances. This situation, they argued, results in unnecessary time and fuel expenditure, causing significant inconvenience for the community.

The memorandum urged NHAI to perform a site evaluation, determine the technical feasibility, and construct a safe at-grade intersection. It was highlighted that this approach would enhance local connectivity and considerably lower construction expenses compared to the proposed overbridge. Additionally, the issue of stray animals, previously raised by Mrs. Neeti Mahajan, was revisited during the discussions.

Attendees included Mr. Ashwini Suri, President of the Trade Association, Mr. Yogesh Mahajan, President of Mahajan Sabha, Mr. Inder Sharma, President of Brahmin Sabha, and elected councillors Mrs. Sonia Soga, Mrs. Ekta Mehra, Mrs. Seema Devi, Mrs. Anamika, and Mr. Ashwini Daffa.

Numerous respected citizens, such as Mr. Satish Sharma, Mr. Vijay Sharma, Dr. B.C. Sharma, Mrs. Veena Mahajan, Mrs. Rakhi Mahajan, Mrs. Alka Mahajan, Mr. Rajinder Mahajan, along with many other residents of Nurpur, also participated in the memorandum submission.
