Concert Disruption

During the opening night of his latest tour, Lionel Richie had to leave his concert unexpectedly after feeling unwell. The 77-year-old music icon was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, when he began to experience difficulties approximately 55 minutes into his set. While singing "Dancing on the Ceiling," he was seen sitting down several times to regain his breath. Richie candidly shared with the audience that he needed to sit down when dizziness struck.

He then moved to the piano to perform "Three Times a Lady" before announcing a sudden intermission. Shortly after, he exited the stage completely, leaving his band to entertain the audience for an additional 15 minutes before they also departed.

Band's Update

After a period of about 40 minutes filled with uncertainty, Dino Soldo, the saxophonist for Earth, Wind & Fire, addressed the audience. He expressed gratitude for their patience and informed them that Richie was unable to continue the performance, promising that further information would be provided later.

Following this, Earth, Wind & Fire's drummer, John Paris, spoke with a local news outlet, noting that Richie had appeared to be in good health prior to the concert, with no visible signs of distress. Paris mentioned that Richie seemed slightly dehydrated but did not elaborate on the situation.

Tour Launch

The concert was intended to mark the beginning of Richie's "Sing Along All Night Long" tour, which includes 26 performances alongside Earth, Wind & Fire. The tour will feature stops at prominent venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York City and the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, concluding at the Moody Center in Austin on August 14. Despite the recent incident, Richie is anticipated to return to the stage soon, with his next performance scheduled for Chicago on Friday.
