Tragic Incident in Nainital District

On Tuesday, a leopard attacked and killed a woman in the Okhalkanda block of Nainital district, according to local officials. This marks the second fatal leopard attack in the area within a week.

Superintendent of Police Jagdish Prasad reported that the incident occurred in the village of Chamoli, specifically in Tok Kitoda, where Rekha Devi had gone into the nearby forest with other women to gather dry wood and fodder for their livestock.

After the afternoon outing, all the women returned home, but Devi did not. Concerned family members initiated a search in the forest, where they discovered her mutilated body.

The incident has instilled fear among local residents, who have expressed their concerns for safety and are urging the forest department to take action. Villagers have accused the department of inaction despite repeated leopard attacks in the region. Just days earlier, on December 26, a leopard had snatched a woman from near her home in the Dhari block, and her body was later found.
