Left Parties Rally Against Police Brutality During CJP's Protest March

Protest Against Police Action in New Delhi

New Delhi: On Monday, leftist parties expressed their outrage over the police's response to demonstrators during the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Sansad Chalo" march. They accused the BJP-led central government of stifling democratic expression and reiterated their call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Prominent leaders from the CPI(M), including general secretary M A Baby, Brinda Karat, and Politburo members Vijoo Krishnan, Arun Kumar, and Mariam Dhawale, participated in the protest at Jantar Mantar, standing in solidarity with students who are demanding accountability regarding alleged irregularities in examinations.

The CPI(M) took to social media to assert that the government had met peaceful protests with excessive force.

"Each lathi charge, tear gas shell, barricade, and sealed metro station reveals the BJP government's fear. A regime that cannot confront its youth or address their concerns is a cowardly one," the party stated.

They also shared images of injured Students' Federation of India (SFI) members, claiming they were attacked while peacefully protesting.

"Every injury signifies a government that opts for violence over dialogue," the CPI(M) added, renewing its calls for Pradhan's resignation, the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA), and the repeal of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) also denounced the police's actions.

"The brutal police assault on peacefully protesting students at Jantar Mantar is unacceptable. Those who have ruined the education system are now hiding behind police barricades," the party remarked on social media.

CPI general secretary D Raja criticized the government's use of force against demonstrators, describing it as a blatant disregard for democratic principles.

"The violent crackdown on students, the welding of barricades, the closure of metro stations with students trapped inside, and the overwhelming police presence against peaceful protesters reveal the BJP government's total disdain for democracy. Democracy thrives on dialogue, not oppression," Raja stated.

He claimed that students were compelled to take to the streets due to the government's failure to address concerns regarding alleged examination irregularities and accused it of protecting Pradhan instead of ensuring accountability.

The Left parties have been supporting the CJP-led movement, which seeks accountability for alleged examination irregularities, reforms in the examination system, and the resignation of the Union education minister.
