Leander Paes Commends West Bengal CM for Yoga Marathon Ahead of International Yoga Day
Celebrating Wellness in Kolkata
Leander Paes, the former Indian tennis champion, expressed his admiration for West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who joined the public during the 'Daud Se Dhyan' (Run for Yoga) marathon held in Kolkata on Friday. This event is part of the city's preparations for the upcoming International Yoga Day.
The marathon, organized to promote physical fitness and wellness, was inaugurated by Adhikari and saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, fitness lovers, and public officials. The initiative aimed to encourage community involvement and healthy lifestyle practices.
Leander Paes' Praise for the Initiative
On the sidelines of the marathon, Paes commended the event, emphasizing the significance of integrating sports with wellness activities for societal improvement. He stated, "Today, a marathon took place in Kolkata, with our Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, participating fully alongside the public. It’s commendable that he took part in the entire marathon. Celebrating sports, yoga, running, and meditation is vital for promoting good health. In just two days, our leader, PM Modi, will join us in Kolkata for International Yoga Day celebrations."
A Positive Step for Kolkata
Trinamool Congress councillor Ashim Basu, who was present at the event, described the marathon as a beneficial initiative for the city. He remarked, "This is a wonderful event, and we are here at the Chief Minister's invitation," adding that elected officials would continue to collaborate for the betterment of Kolkata and West Bengal.
Leading Up to International Yoga Day
The marathon took place shortly after Adhikari participated in the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' campaign at Kolkata's Mayor Ghat, a cleanliness initiative launched in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit for International Yoga Day on June 21. With yoga-themed events gaining traction across the state, the 'Daud Se Dhyan' marathon served as a precursor to the nationwide celebrations, uniting sports, fitness, and community engagement in Kolkata.
