Tragic Landslide in Lungtlai City

In Lungtlai city, located in southern Mizoram, a devastating landslide triggered by heavy rainfall has led to the collapse of five houses and a hotel, raising fears of casualties among residents. Officials have reported the incident.


The landslide occurred around 10:30 PM on Friday, affecting the border areas of the Veng and Chandmari neighborhoods in Lungtlai. Authorities suspect that several individuals from Myanmar, who were staying at the hotel, may be trapped under the debris.


Rescue operations are currently underway, involving volunteers from the Young Lai Association (YLA), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and personnel from the Third Indian Reserve Battalion. Officials noted that detailed information about the incident is still pending. Since Friday, the northeastern state has been experiencing heavy downpours, resulting in multiple landslides and rockfalls in various locations.
