Lahore Qalandars Players Face Security Breach Allegations in PSL
Security Protocol Breach Allegations
Players from the Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi and Sikandar Raza, are under scrutiny by Punjab police for allegedly violating security protocols. This follows an incident where four unauthorized individuals gained access to the team's hotel room, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Details of the Incident
In a communication directed to the CEO of the PSL, Salman Naseer, a deputy police inspector accused Afridi and Raza of disregarding security measures. They reportedly 'forcibly escorted' the visitors to a player's room on Saturday night, where they remained for approximately three hours.
The letter indicates that the Qalandars' Liaison Officer had sought permission from the PCB's security and anti-corruption manager for the entry of the four individuals, who were acquaintances of Raza. However, this request was denied. Furthermore, the Qalandars' owner, Sameen Rana, attempted to gain approval from Naseer, but this was also rejected due to security concerns.
Despite these refusals, the letter claims that Afridi and Raza proceeded to bring the visitors in, even against the objections of the security personnel on duty.
Response from Lahore Qalandars
Umar Farooq, the head of media for the Qalandars, confirmed that the team is aware of the situation involving the two players and is in discussions with the PSL regarding the matter. 'We are aware of an incident involving two Lahore Qalandars players and are in communication with the PSL over the issue,' Farooq stated.
Call for Future Prevention
The police's letter concludes with a recommendation for a thorough review of the incident and emphasizes the need for measures to prevent similar breaches in the future.
