Mbappé's Legal Battle with PSG

Kylian Mbappé has filed a legal complaint against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for alleged moral harassment, as confirmed by the Paris prosecutor's office on Thursday.

The star forward, now with Real Madrid, claims that PSG owes him a staggering 55 million euros (approximately $61 million) in unpaid wages.

Mbappé expressed dissatisfaction with how he was treated by the Ligue 1 club, particularly after he opted not to renew his contract before the 2023-24 season.

According to the prosecutor's office, Mbappé is accusing PSG of 'lofting,' a term used in France to describe the practice of isolating a player from the main squad for various reasons, including disciplinary actions.

After a successful seven-year stint at PSG, where he netted a record 256 goals, Mbappé made a free transfer to Real Madrid last summer, while PSG went on to win the Champions League without him.

His departure from PSG was marked by significant tension, with some fans booing him during his final match at Parc des Princes. The club felt betrayed after offering him the most lucrative contract in its history in 2022.

Mbappé was reportedly frustrated by unmet promises regarding key player signings. Although he was presented to fans with a jersey bearing the number 2025, his contract was actually set to expire in 2024, with an option for an additional year.

In a surprising move in June 2023, he informed PSG that he would not be exercising the option for an extra year, putting the club in a difficult position where they needed to sell him to avoid losing him for free.

His potential exit was fraught with tension, especially after he was excluded from a preseason tour to Japan and South Korea, and was forced to train with less prominent players. PSG preferred to sell him rather than let him leave for free in 2024, but he turned down a lucrative 300 million euro offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal.

Although Mbappé was initially left out of the opening league match of the season, he was soon reinstated to the squad following discussions.

In April, his legal representatives announced plans to initiate action against PSG for harassment due to the treatment he received during this tumultuous period.
