Kunal Kamra's Defiance in Maharashtra Assembly Committee

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra appeared before a committee of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday, asserting that he feels no remorse for his remarks directed at Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and will not issue an apology.

In a subsequent social media update, Kamra reiterated his stance, stating he will not offer a 'performative' apology.

A committee was established to investigate a complaint against Kamra following the issuance of a privilege breach notice. During the questioning, he recalled the last three questions posed to him: 'Do you regret your comments?' to which he replied, 'No.' When asked if he felt sorry for what he said, he again responded, 'No.' Finally, when prompted about the possibility of an unconditional apology to view the matter differently, he firmly stated, 'No, I cannot do that, as it would not be genuine and would set a poor precedent for other artists and their freedom.'
