Formation of the Transformation Committee

Kumar Sangakkara, the renowned cricketer, has been appointed as one of nine members of a newly established Transformation Committee tasked with overseeing Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). This decision follows the government's announcement on Wednesday to dissolve the previous leadership.

On April 29, Shammi Silva, the President of SLC, resigned immediately, as confirmed by an official statement from the board. The media release from SLC indicated that the entire leadership team, including all office bearers and Executive Committee members, has resigned as part of this restructuring.

Committee Structure and Leadership

Sangakkara is the most notable former cricketer on the committee, which also features Roshan Mahanama and Sidath Wettimuny. The committee primarily consists of professionals from corporate, legal, and political sectors, with Eran Wickramaratne, a former Member of Parliament, appointed as its chair. Wickramaratne, affiliated with the main opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, has reportedly stepped down from his political roles to accept this position.

Goals of the Transformation Committee

Wickramaratne expressed his honor in leading a committee filled with individuals of high integrity and expertise. He outlined two main objectives for the Transformation Committee, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The first goal is to completely revamp the governance framework at SLC. The second aim is to achieve 'excellence on the field.' Wickramaratne emphasized the importance of creating the necessary structures, world-class facilities, and incentive models to empower national teams, with the ultimate goal of restoring Sri Lanka to the top tier of international cricket rankings.
