Kukkiwon Launches International Taekwondo Education Program in India

The Kukkiwon International Taekwondo Education Program has been launched in India, aiming to enhance coaching standards and athlete development in school sports. Held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School in Mumbai, this initiative brought together educators and coaches for an immersive learning experience led by experts from Kukkiwon. Introduction to the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Program

The Kukkiwon International Taekwondo Education Program was recently inaugurated in India by the International Schools Sports Organisation (ISSO) in partnership with Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters based in South Korea, and ISF Academy. This groundbreaking initiative aims to enhance coaching standards, technical proficiency, and athlete development pathways within the school sports framework in India. The event took place on June 20 and 21 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School in Mumbai.


Program Highlights and Participation

This program gathered educators and Taekwondo enthusiasts, including 40 coaches from across India, for an enriching learning experience facilitated by renowned experts from Kukkiwon. According to a press release, the initiative demonstrates a collective dedication from ISSO, ISF Academy, and Kukkiwon to elevate school sports through education, global collaboration, and the implementation of internationally recognized best practices. Participants were exposed to Kukkiwon-standard poomsae training, coaching methodologies, technical skills enhancement, and frameworks for athlete progression.


Leadership and Expertise

Kukkiwon, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is recognized as the global authority for Taekwondo Dan certification and instructor education, serving over 200 countries. The program was spearheaded by Master Ahn Hyung-Won, a Kukkiwon Dispatch Master and Associate Instructor, who is celebrated as a leading figure in modern Taekwondo education. Master Ahn holds a 6th Dan Black Belt and has an impressive record, including a gold medal at the U.S. Open Taekwondo Championship and multiple national titles in Korea.


Building International Collaborations

This collaboration signifies a pivotal achievement in ISSO and ISF Academy's mission to provide international-standard coaching education in India. Over the past year, these organizations have successfully conducted educational programs in collaboration with prominent global sports bodies such as FIBA, the Badminton World Federation (BWF), and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
