On Tuesday, Indian athletes showcased their talent in track and field during the Commonwealth Games 2026. Animesh Kujur, the national record holder, made a remarkable entry into the men's 200m semifinals. He clocked a season-best time of 20.46 seconds in Heat 4, securing victory in his race. Only the top 16 athletes from 10 heats could move forward, so Kujur had to wait for the conclusion of all heats to confirm his qualification. Ultimately, he advanced to the semifinals in seventh place overall, keeping India's aspirations alive in the sprint event. With a personal best of 20.32 seconds, Kujur aims to capitalize on his strong performance in the upcoming semifinals.

Toor and Gill Secure Final Spots in Shot Put

In the men's shot put qualification, both Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill successfully reached the final. Toor, competing in Group A, began with a throw of 19.93m and improved to 20.14m on his second attempt, exceeding the automatic qualification mark of 20m. This performance placed him second overall in the qualifying round. Gill also performed well, achieving throws of 19.95m and 19.75m, finishing fifth overall, which was sufficient for him to secure a spot in the final. New Zealand's Nick Walsh led the qualification standings with a top throw of 21.03m, positioning him as the favorite for the gold medal.
