Wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat officially declared his retirement from international cricket on Thursday, marking the conclusion of his career with the Indian team. He shared this news via an Instagram post, where he expressed immense pride and gratitude for having represented his country. Bharat described his experience of playing for India as the highest honor of his life, reflecting on the challenges he faced and the resilience that defined his journey.


Career Overview

The cricketer from Andhra Pradesh wraps up his international career with seven Test matches under his belt, accumulating 221 runs at an average of 20.09, with a top score of 44. Throughout these matches, Bharat successfully took 21 catches and executed one stumping as a wicketkeeper.


Expressions of Gratitude

Bharat conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with coaches, managers, and cricket administrators who supported him throughout his career. He also acknowledged the Andhra Cricket Association and Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association (VDCA) for their encouragement since his childhood, and expressed appreciation for the ground staff and teammates who contributed to his journey.


"I extend my gratitude to the BCCI and all the coaches and managers who supported me unconditionally, creating an excellent environment for me to excel at the highest level. I owe a significant debt of gratitude to the groundsmen who worked tirelessly to ensure optimal playing conditions. To my teammates, thank you for the shared moments and achievements that made my career possible," Bharat stated.


Acknowledging Influential Figures

KS Bharat expressed his appreciation for former Indian captain Virat Kohli, under whom he made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2021, stating that this opportunity was pivotal for his recognition. He also thanked Rohit Sharma for leading him during his Test debut and Rahul Dravid for his mentorship from India A to the senior team. In the 2021 IPL season, Bharat played eight matches, scoring 191 runs at an average of 38.20 and a strike rate of 122.43. However, in the 2022 season, he participated in only two matches for the Delhi Capitals, scoring a mere eight runs.


"I am grateful to my IPL debut captain Virat Kohli for the opportunity to showcase my skills. A heartfelt thank you to Rohit Sharma for my Test debut, which is invaluable. To my coach Rahul Dravid, your guidance has been unforgettable, enabling me to become an Indian Test cricketer," he added.

"My advice to young players is to dream big and work hard to achieve it. Dreams can come true with determination and discipline. Although my journey with BCCI and Test cricket has ended, my commitment to the game continues. I will keep playing and giving back to cricket by mentoring the next generation who aspire to succeed.
