Kolkata Police's Firm Stance on Law and Order

In the wake of sporadic violence following the West Bengal assembly elections, Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Nand issued a stern warning on Wednesday. He emphasized that any attempts to disrupt law and order would be met with strict measures.

Nand revealed that a special operation is underway to apprehend troublemakers, resulting in the arrest of 80 individuals within the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police so far.

Among those detained, 65 were taken into custody for specific incidents, while 15 others were arrested as a precautionary measure. The police commissioner stated, "Anyone attempting to create an atmosphere of fear or terror will face severe consequences." He addressed the media at a press conference held at the police headquarters, urging that no one should engage in acts of violence or disrupt public order.

He acknowledged that while some incidents have occurred, the overall situation remains peaceful.

Additionally, Nand mentioned that several weapons were seized during the raids. He warned that no bulldozers would be permitted in any victory processions during the election campaign. He stated, "No rallies will be allowed with JCBs or similar equipment."

The police chief further noted that if JCB owners rent their vehicles for such purposes, they too would face action. He assured that to maintain law and order in the post-election scenario, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Kolkata Police would collaborate, similar to their efforts during the assembly elections. He concluded by expressing the need for cooperation and contribution from every member of society.
