Kolkata Police Submit Charge Sheet in Ashok Paswan Murder Case
Charge Sheet Filed in High-Profile Murder Case
Kolkata, Jan 17: Kolkata Police have officially submitted a charge sheet regarding the murder of Ashok Paswan, a young man from a locality within the jurisdiction of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.
The tragic incident occurred last October when Ashok was brutally killed on the streets of Chetla, South Kolkata. Reports indicate that he was attacked with a crowbar, which was thrust into his throat. The police have outlined the motive for this heinous act in the charge sheet.
The murder took place near the number 17 bus stand in Chetla, stemming from a dispute during a drinking session. It is alleged that one of Ashok's acquaintances suddenly attacked him with a crowbar.
Despite managing to run approximately 100 meters after the assault, Ashok collapsed on the road. He was rushed to SSKM Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In connection with this case, authorities apprehended two suspects, Surajit Haldar and Tapas Pal, who have been named as the primary offenders in the 85-page charge sheet. This document, presented to the Alipore court, includes testimonies from 30 witnesses.
Investigators revealed that the altercation originated from a dispute involving the wife of one of the accused, which escalated during their drinking session, ultimately leading to the fatal attack.
In the aftermath of the incident, the officer in charge of Chetla Police Station was replaced. Amitabh Sarkhel has since taken over the position. This change was prompted by concerns regarding public safety in a prominent area, particularly given its proximity to the Mayor's residence.
Local residents have voiced significant concerns, claiming that alcohol-fueled gatherings have become increasingly common in the area, especially on public streets, thereby threatening community safety.
