Reports suggest that Mishra, also referred to as Mango, exhibited troubling sexual behaviors and tendencies towards violence. Fellow students have described him as potentially unstable and dangerous. BJP leader Amit Malviya has publicly addressed Mishra's connections with the Trinamool Congress on social media.

Inappropriate Proposals to Female Students

As reported by a leading news outlet, Mishra frequently initiated conversations with female students by asking, 'Tui amay biye korbi?' which translates to 'Will you marry me?' This behavior led to his expulsion from the college's Trinamool unit in 2021 after he made similar proposals to multiple girls on campus.

A third-year student recounted, 'This individual and his associates were a source of fear for many girls. The authorities were aware of his actions but chose to protect him. We even lodged a formal complaint regarding sexual harassment, but no action was taken.'

Another junior student added, 'Those involved with the union felt entitled to act without consequences. Sharing inappropriate jokes and images in group chats was commonplace. We remained silent due to fear.'

Mishra's Ties with the Trinamool Congress

Mishra, a former student of the law college, previously held the position of President of the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) at the institution. His social media indicates he is currently the General Secretary of TMCP in South Kolkata. Despite some TMC leaders distancing themselves from him, he has been seen alongside prominent figures in the party, including Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of party leader Mamata Banerjee, and Kajari Banerjee, a local councillor.

Amit Malviya's Critique of TMC

Amit Malviya criticized the TMC's defense of their association with Mishra, stating, 'Their excuse for being seen with him is not only absurd but also criminal.' He emphasized that Mishra was not an unknown figure, having faced attempted murder charges since 2013 and multiple molestation complaints at local police stations, yet he was never prosecuted due to political protection.

Malviya highlighted Mishra's notorious behavior, which included harassing women, making unsolicited marriage proposals, and threatening those who rejected him. In 2023, he was given a position in a government college, raising concerns about his potential to exploit young women. Reports have surfaced alleging that he recorded private moments with female students, indicating clear instances of digital sexual abuse.

Details of the Incident

On June 25, a female student was reportedly gang-raped within the premises of South Calcutta Law College in the Kasba area of Kolkata. Authorities have apprehended four individuals, including Mishra, and established a special investigative team to delve into the matter. Mishra and two accomplices have been charged with rape, with the incident occurring between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM. The other suspects are identified as Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukerjee (30), with arrests made shortly after the victim's complaint.
