Kolkata Knight Riders Gear Up for IPL 2026 with Focus on Mental Strength
KKR Kicks Off Practice for IPL 2026
On Wednesday, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) commenced their practice sessions at Eden Gardens, led by head coach Abhishek Nayar. He delivered an inspiring speech to motivate the team as they prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Nayar emphasized the importance of cultivating the right mindset, stating that each practice session is designed to mentally equip the players for the challenge of securing the franchise's fourth IPL title. Their first match is scheduled for March 29 against the Mumbai Indians, who have won the tournament five times.
"In the past few months, we have honed our skills and engaged in extensive discussions. The key focus now is on our mental preparation. The skills we possess will remain constant over the next ten days, but our mentality is what needs to evolve. Every moment spent on this ground and with each other is aimed at one goal: to win and earn that fourth star. We must prepare our minds before our bodies step onto the field for the first game on the 29th," Nayar stated, according to KKR Knight Club.
Welcoming Shane Watson to the Coaching Staff
Nayar also took the opportunity to welcome Shane Watson as the new assistant coach, highlighting his valuable experience. He encouraged the players to learn from Watson's extensive knowledge.
"Shane Watson is well-known for his playing career, but I have had the privilege of playing under him. I am thrilled to have you on board, Watto. Your addition has already made a positive impact in the short time we've interacted. Make sure to leverage his experience; there is much to learn. We have had excellent coaches in the past, but I am confident that Shane Watson will bring significant value to our team. Welcome to the KKR family, Watto," Nayar expressed.
