Kodak Black Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges in Florida

Rapper Kodak Black has been arrested in Florida on serious drug trafficking charges involving MDMA. The 28-year-old artist is currently held without bond and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison. This arrest follows a November 2025 incident linked to gunfire outside a non-profit organization. Kodak's attorney claims the charges are weak and describes the arrest as a coordinated surrender. This is not the first time Kodak has faced legal issues, as he has a history of drug-related arrests. The case is ongoing, and he remains innocent until proven guilty.

Overview of the Arrest

Rapper Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was taken into custody in Orange County, Florida, on Wednesday and is currently being held without bail. The 28-year-old musician faces serious allegations of trafficking over 10 grams of MDMA (ecstasy), a synthetic substance known for its stimulant and hallucinogenic properties. In Florida, this offense carries a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison along with a $50,000 fine.

Incident Details

The arrest is linked to an event that occurred in November 2025 outside the Children’s Safety Village, a non-profit organization located in Orlando. Law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two vehicles in the vicinity. Upon detecting the odor of marijuana, officers conducted a search of the vehicles.

According to an affidavit, authorities found illegal substances during their search, along with pink scissors and rings that matched items Kodak Black had showcased on his Instagram just a week prior. Reports indicate that Black approached the officers while they were investigating the vehicles.

Attorney's Statement

Kodak Black’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, characterized the arrest as a “coordinated surrender.” He informed media outlets that one of the vehicles contained only a single passenger who was not Black. Cohen asserted that officers discovered a bag containing prescription cough syrup with Kodak’s fingerprint, but he criticized the trafficking charges as weak, stating they “should have never been filed.”

“We anticipate a favorable resolution to yet another case that should not have been initiated,” Cohen remarked. The Independent has reached out to Black’s representatives for further comments.

Kodak Black's Legal Background

This incident is not Kodak Black’s first brush with the law regarding drug offenses:

  • In December 2023, he was arrested in Florida for cocaine possession, tampering with evidence, and improper parking.

  • In 2022, he faced charges for trafficking oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance, leading to his release on a $75,000 bond with mandatory drug testing.

  • Earlier in 2023, he was mandated to undergo 30 days of drug rehabilitation after failing a drug test and subsequently testing positive for fentanyl.

  • Previously, he served approximately half of a three-year federal prison sentence for falsifying documents to acquire firearms, a sentence that was commuted by President Donald Trump in 2021.

Kodak Black gained fame with tracks like “Wake Up in the Sky” and continues to be a significant figure in the hip-hop scene, despite his ongoing legal challenges. The case remains active, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
