KL Rahul's Injury Raises Alarm During First Test Against Sri Lanka
KL Rahul's Retirement Due to Injury
KL Rahul, the vice-captain of Team India, has raised concerns within the squad after retiring hurt due to severe cramps on the first day of the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium on August 15.
Choosing to bat first under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India started their innings steadily. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal (47) and KL Rahul put together a 47-run partnership before Jaiswal was run out following a collision with Sri Lankan spinner Keshara Nuwantha.
Following this, KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal built an impressive unbeaten partnership of 155 runs for the second wicket, helping India reach 197/1 in 53 overs, with Rahul scoring 77 and Padikkal 82.
Injury Concerns for Team India
As India aimed to build on their strong start, Rahul, who had shown remarkable patience to reach his fifty, began to exhibit signs of discomfort due to an injury to his right forearm and severe muscle spasms affecting his hands and legs.
After the tea break, both Padikkal and Rahul returned to the field, but Rahul was unable to continue. He was seen receiving treatment for his hand injury in the dressing room but struggled to grip his bat or walk comfortably when he attempted to resume play.
Rahul signaled to the umpires and was assisted back to the pavilion by physiotherapists, visibly limping and having difficulty climbing the stairs due to the cramps and exhaustion from his 162-ball innings.
