During the first day of a practice match against Sri Lanka XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on August 7, KL Rahul, the vice-captain of Team India, struggled with his fielding.

With regular captain Shubman Gill sidelined due to a finger injury, Rahul stepped up to lead the team. Sri Lanka XI's captain, Sonal Dinusha, opted to bat first, and India's bowlers worked hard in the initial session, managing to take just one wicket as the hosts reached 139/1 in 29 overs.

India's Afternoon Resurgence

In the afternoon, India made a strong comeback, reducing Sri Lanka XI to 246/4 in 59.3 overs by claiming four wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, Gurnoor Brar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar each took a wicket, but a dropped catch by Rahul allowed one batter to capitalize on the mistake, impacting India's momentum.

As India regained control in the afternoon, video clips of KL Rahul's dropped catch quickly circulated on social media. This incident occurred in the 26th over of Sri Lanka XI's innings when opener Ravindu Rasantha, who was on 43 runs, edged a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav. Positioned at first slip, Rahul failed to secure the catch, much to the disappointment of the Indian team.

Rasantha went on to score 71 runs off 143 balls, including six fours and a six, before being dismissed by Manav Suthar at 201/3 in the 50th over. Following Rasantha's exit, Sri Lanka XI lost two more wickets but managed to stabilize their innings, surpassing the 250-run mark.
