KL Rahul Achieves Milestone with 10th Test Century at Lord's
KL Rahul's Remarkable Achievement
KL Rahul accomplished what Rishabh Pant aimed for but couldn't achieve, scoring his 10th Test century before being dismissed for 100 runs off 177 deliveries. This century marks Rahul as only the second Indian cricketer to secure multiple Test centuries at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground.
Previously, the record was held exclusively by former player Dilip Vengsarkar, who scored centuries in three consecutive Tests at this venue. Vengsarkar still leads with three centuries, the highest by any visiting player. Notably, KL Rahul achieved his second century at Lord's on July 12, Day 3 of the match.
This century also represents Rahul's fourth Test century in England, making him the Indian opener with the most centuries in the country.
Celebration and Dismissal
Watch KL Rahul's celebration here:
Just before the lunch break, Rishabh Pant made a desperate dash towards the non-striker's end to help KL secure his century. However, KL's innings concluded shortly after as he was dismissed elegantly, showcasing perfect leg movement and stance, only to edge a full toss from Shoaib Bashir to his off stump. The ball was caught by Harry Brook at first slip. Rahul's wicket fell right after he reached his century, but he had already formed a hundred-run partnership with Pant.
Innings Overview
Beginning Day 3 at 53*, KL Rahul played a steady innings, allowing Rishabh Pant to take the lead, particularly with his aggressive play against Jofra Archer. Rahul quickly found his rhythm, hitting a boundary off Chris Woakes and then striking three consecutive fours against Brydon Carse in the next over.
His innings gained traction as he skillfully found gaps and timed the ball well, especially against Carse. Just before lunch, Rahul approached the 90s but was involved in an unfortunate mix-up that led to Pant's dismissal for 74 while trying to give Rahul the strike for his century.
It's worth noting that KL's last century at Lord's was during India's memorable tour in 2021, where he was named Player of the Match for scoring 129 runs in the first innings.
