In a recent social media post, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya expressed his delight over his son Neil Somaiya's candidacy in Ward 107 of Mulund, Mumbai, noting the lack of strong opposition from major political figures. The article delves into the election dynamics, including the alliances and candidate selections that shape the political landscape in the region. As the elections approach, the strategies and alliances of various parties are under scrutiny, making this a pivotal moment in Mumbai's political scene.

Kirit Somaiya Expresses Joy Over Election Dynamics

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya couldn't contain his excitement as he took to social media to share his thoughts. He mentioned, "Neil Somaiya is contesting from Ward 107 in Mulund. Notably, 1. Uddhav Thackeray (Shiv Sena, UBT), 2. Raj Thackeray (MNS), 3. Sharad Pawar (NCP), and 4. Rahul Gandhi (Congress) have not fielded any candidates. Truly, God is great!" Somaiya's confidence in his son's potential victory stems from the absence of a formidable opponent.

Due to the alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS, and NCP (SP), Ward 107 was allocated to NCP (SP). The party had nominated Bharat Vanani as their candidate, but his nomination was rejected, rendering him ineligible. Meanwhile, Congress has allied with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), fielding Vaishali Sapkal as their candidate.

Election Details and Candidate Landscape

Returning officer Ujjwala Bhagat reported that there were 13 valid nominations for Ward 107, including four submitted by Neil Somaiya. Bhagat noted, "There is one VBA candidate, while the rest are independent candidates." In the previous elections of 2017, Neil had contested from the adjacent Ward 108 and emerged victorious. In January 2023, VBA had formed an alliance with Shiv Sena for the municipal elections, but this partnership is set to end in 2024. When asked about any ongoing agreements with Shiv Sena, VBA leader Prakash Ambedkar clarified that there is no alliance with either Shiv Sena or MNS.

Additionally, the fortunes of Shiv Sena MLA Muraji Patel from Andheri East seem to be favorable. His wife, Kesarbhen, is contesting from Ward 81 on a BJP ticket, while his former assistant, Prakash Musale, is running from Ward 76. Both wards fall within Patel's constituency. Patel emphasized that candidate selection is based on qualifications and winning potential, stating, "Every party chooses its candidates, and Musale is not my assistant; he is the BJP's sub-district president."
