KIIT Athletes Break Records at Khelo India University Games 2025
KIIT Athletes Excel in Athletics
Animesh Kujur, an Olympian and national record holder in the 100m and 200m events, concluded the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025 on a triumphant note. He led the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) team to a new record in the 4x100m relay, clocking in at 40.09 seconds. After securing the gold medal, Kujur expressed, "Our primary goal was to set a record, and we successfully achieved that at the KIUG 2025. I am thrilled with our team's performance." Mahatma Gandhi University, who took home the silver, matched the previous KIUG record of 40.76 seconds, which was previously held by Mangalore University.
Outstanding Performances in Shot Put and Heptathlon
Samardeep Singh Gill from KIIT surpassed his own All India University (AIU) record in men's Shot Put during the KIUG in Rajasthan, held at Sawai Man Singh Stadium. He threw a remarkable distance of 19.42m on his second attempt, earning him the gold medal. Aniket from Guru Kashi University finished second with a throw of 18.08m. Samardeep, who has consistently thrown over 19 meters this year, has previously held both the AIU and KIUG records.
In the heptathlon, Isha Chander Prakash, also from KIIT, set a new KIUG record with a score of 4857 points. After establishing a significant lead in the first four events, she maintained her advantage to surpass the previous record by 109 points, which was held by Sonu Kumari of Lovely Professional University.
Highlights from Other Sports
In Udaipur, Chandigarh University excelled in Canoe and Kayaking, securing seven gold medals on the final day of competition at Fateh Sagar Lake, bringing their total to 23 golds, one silver, and one bronze. Guru Kashi University followed as the second-best team with three golds, one silver, and three bronzes.
In men's football, the University of Calicut triumphed over Guru Nanak Dev University, winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a scoreless regulation time.
Chandigarh University Leads Medal Tally
The fifth edition of KIUG 2025 is taking place across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring 4448 athletes from 222 universities competing in 23 medal events. Organized by the Sports Authority of India in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and hosted by Poornima University, the Games have seen Chandigarh University extend its lead in the medal tally to 41, following their seven gold medals in Canoe and Kayaking. With just one day left of competition, a total of 12 new records have been established in athletics over the four-day event.
