Pollard's Transition to Joburg Super Kings

Graeme Smith, the former captain of South Africa and current commissioner of SA20, praised Kieron Pollard's competitive spirit and vast experience as he made a significant transition in franchise cricket. Pollard, a legendary figure from the West Indies, has switched from MI Cape Town to Joburg Super Kings (JSK) ahead of the fifth season of the league, which was highlighted during the recent auction. This remarkable move saw Pollard, who has been a loyal player for Mumbai Indians (MI) and its associated franchises, being acquired by JSK for R 1.5 million. His appearance in the iconic yellow colors of JSK is set to be one of the most thrilling narratives for the upcoming SA20 season.

Graeme Smith's Insights on Pollard's Transfer

During a media interaction organized by SA20 post-auction, Graeme remarked, "Pollard stands out as one of the most seasoned T20 players globally. His extensive experience across various competitions is invaluable. Having him around will greatly benefit younger players like Jason Rawles, who is the most expensive signing for SA20 season five. The opportunity for these players to learn from Pollard, both on and off the field, is tremendous."

"Pollard is known for his straightforward nature and fierce competitiveness. His energy will undoubtedly enhance our tournament. His history with MI adds an intriguing storyline. I will leave it to Albie Morkel, the JSK coach, and Robin Peterson, the head coach of MI Cape Town, to strategize for their respective teams. However, having such high-caliber players in the league is always exciting," he added.

Now, Pollard joins JSK, a team that has reached the playoffs four times, aiming for their first SA20 title, previously won three times by Sunrisers Eastern Cape and once by MI Cape Town in 2025.
