Celebrating Income Tax Day with a Walkathon
On Saturday, renowned badminton player and Padma Shri awardee Kidambi Srikanth participated in a walkathon organized by the Income Tax Department at Sanjeevaiah Park along Necklace Road. This event was part of the 167th Income Tax Day celebrations, aimed at promoting fitness and healthy living. The walkathon saw enthusiastic participation from Income Tax officials, employees, and the public, all focused on raising awareness about health, fitness, and civic responsibility. Srikanth expressed his delight in being part of this initiative, emphasizing the significance of maintaining good health. He stated, "I am extremely happy today to be part of the 167th Income Tax Day, and I really like to congratulate them on starting such an initiative here today. We all know how important health and fitness can be, so to be here today for a walkathon, I'm thrilled to see so many people engaged in it."
Promoting Tax Compliance and Healthy Living
KV Chowdary, the former Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), highlighted that the walkathon's purpose was to encourage tax compliance alongside healthier lifestyles among citizens. He remarked, "The Income Tax Department is organizing a walkathon to raise awareness about income tax and the importance of adhering to tax regulations, while also promoting health and the habit of walking among employees and citizens."
Fitness and Environmental Awareness Initiatives
Suresh Battini, the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, noted that the initiative aimed not only to enhance fitness among employees but also to support environmental awareness through the government's water conservation campaign. He explained, "From the Income Tax Department, we have initiated this walkathon activity for the health of the employees, but we also intend to pray for rain as part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign."
A Nationwide Celebration
This event was part of the nationwide celebrations for the 167th Income Tax Day, merging the themes of physical fitness, responsible citizenship, tax compliance, and environmental conservation. Participants enjoyed a scenic walk along Necklace Road, showcasing the increasing importance of sports and fitness activities in public outreach programs organized by government departments.
