Minister Celebrates KIUG for Promoting Unity and Excellence
The Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, praised the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2025 during its closing ceremony. She emphasized the event's role in promoting excellence and unity among young athletes. According to a press release from SAI Media, Khadse noted that the Games provided a platform for athletes from various states to connect and appreciate each other's rich cultural backgrounds, while also paving the way for excellence.
Sports as a Global Soft Power
Khadse pointed out that sports extend beyond merely winning medals; they serve as a form of soft power on the international stage. She quoted Prime Minister Modi, stating, "The future of this country lies in our youth," and stressed the importance of mutual understanding among the youth from different states. She believes that sports can propel the nation forward as a soft power globally. Khadse congratulated all athletes, both medalists and non-medalists, for their achievements, highlighting that reaching this level marks a new beginning for their future progress. Her vision is to promote sports in every household across the country, as it fosters unity.
Chandigarh University Retains Championship Title
Chandigarh University successfully defended its title at the Khelo India University Games, showcasing exceptional talent in Canoe and Kayaking. The 12-day multi-sport event concluded at Poornima University, with Chandigarh University leading the medal tally, amassing a total of 67 medals: 42 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze. Lovely Professional University (LPU) secured the runner-up position with 32 gold, 25 silver, and 22 bronze medals, while Guru Nanak Dev University finished in third place.
