Bengal: EC Acts Against 7 CAPF Personnel for Attending Iftar Party

The Election Commission has dismissed seven personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces from their election duties in West Bengal for reportedly attending an iftar gathering in Murshidabad district, which violates the guidelines for election deployment.

This incident allegedly occurred a week ago in the Samserganj constituency. Two personnel have been placed in custody by the central forces, while the other five have been reassigned outside the state.

Officials emphasized that personnel on election duty must uphold strict operational neutrality, as any form of engagement, including accepting invitations or hospitality, could create both real and perceived biases, which is unacceptable during an election period.

The Assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled to take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results expected to be announced on May 4.
