Kerala Police Investigates AI Video Defaming PM Modi Amid Political Tensions
Kerala Police Action on AI-Generated Video
The Kerala police have initiated legal proceedings against an individual and a user on a social media platform for disseminating an AI-generated video that allegedly misrepresents Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission. The authorities claim that the video portrays both in a misleading and defamatory light.
This content was flagged to the police through official channels, including a report from the Election Commission. Given that the Model Code of Conduct is currently active in the state due to upcoming Assembly elections, the Kerala Police is in communication with the Election Commission regarding this matter.
Congress Critiques India's Diplomatic Standing
In light of Islamabad's role in facilitating peace discussions between the United States and Iran, the Congress party has criticized the Indian government's diplomatic efforts, labeling it a 'colossal failure.' They argue that this situation has allowed a 'broken country' like Pakistan to emerge as a 'broker country.'
This statement followed External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar's remarks at an all-party meeting, where he asserted that India does not consider itself a 'dalaal' or broker, unlike Pakistan. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh responded, stating that Pakistan's potential mediating role reflects poorly on Modi's diplomatic approach.
Concerns Over Transgender Rights Bill
An advisory committee appointed by the Supreme Court has reached out to Union Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar, recommending the withdrawal of the 2026 Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Amendment Bill. This bill was recently passed in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
It is now set to be sent to President Droupadi Murmu for approval. Various transgender, intersex, and gender-diverse organizations have voiced their opposition to the bill, arguing that it undermines protections established by the 2019 Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Act. The proposed amendments aim to redefine the criteria for identifying a transgender individual.
Iran's Maritime Policy Amid Regional Conflict
Iran has permitted 'friendly countries,' including India, to navigate the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing West Asia conflict, as stated by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He noted that vessels associated with Iran's adversaries would be denied passage.
Other nations granted access through this critical maritime route include China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan.
Trump's Remarks on Iranian Negotiators
Former US President Donald Trump described Iranian negotiators as 'very different and strange,' claiming that Tehran is 'begging' for a deal with Washington. He suggested that Iran's military setbacks have left them with 'zero chance of a comeback,' despite their public statements about merely 'considering' the US proposal.
Reports indicated that Iran had rejected a 15-point ceasefire plan from the US, instead offering its own counterproposal. Additionally, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has alleged that Alireza Tangsiri, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, was killed in a recent strike, although Iran has yet to respond to this claim.
