Intense Campaigning in Kerala Ahead of Elections

Thiruvananthapuram: The political atmosphere in Kerala is charged as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, prepare to campaign vigorously across various constituencies this Saturday, marking a crucial phase leading up to the elections.

Voters in Kerala will head to the polls on April 9 to select 140 new legislators.

Rahul Gandhi plans to visit three districts in one day, engaging in events in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Idukki, as the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) intensifies its efforts to reclaim power in the state.

Insiders from the party suggest that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will soon announce a second round of campaigning, particularly focusing on Wayanad, her Lok Sabha constituency, which is vital for the party's strategy.

Meanwhile, PM Modi is set to spearhead the BJP's campaign with a significant rally in Thiruvalla, followed by a prominent 1.5-kilometre roadshow in Nemom, where state BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar is contesting.

This roadshow is anticipated to be a powerful display of strength as the BJP aims to invigorate its supporters and broaden its electoral reach.

Nemom is particularly important for the BJP, having been the site of its only Assembly win in 2016, although it lost the seat in 2021.

The party is now determined to regain its foothold.

After finishing second in at least nine constituencies during the last Assembly elections, BJP leaders are hopeful not only to secure their first win but also to achieve multiple victories this time around.

For the Congress-led UDF, the stakes are equally significant, as the alliance aims to leverage anti-incumbency feelings to return to power.

The simultaneous campaigns by PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi highlight Kerala's strategic importance, with both national parties deploying their top leaders to influence voters.

As both sides plan return visits in the upcoming days, Kerala is becoming a battleground for a direct clash of narratives and momentum between the BJP and Congress, making it a focal point in the lead-up to the elections.
