Kejriwal Raises Concerns Over BJP and SAD Collaboration
On Friday, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stirred speculation regarding a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) for the upcoming 2027 Punjab elections. This came in light of a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. Kejriwal took to social media platform X to express his skepticism, questioning whether a partnership was forming between what he termed the 'thieving party' and the 'disrespectful party.'

Previously, the BJP had denied any plans to ally with the SAD, asserting that it would contest the elections independently. Following a meeting of the BJP's Punjab unit in June, state president Kuldeep Singh Dhillon stated, "We discussed Punjab's political landscape. It was a productive meeting. Our sole agenda for Punjab is development. We will contest and win all 117 seats; there is no talk of alliances at this time. We aim to establish a BJP government in Punjab."
BJP's national president Nitin Nabin has also called for the blooming of the lotus in Punjab. The BJP and SAD had previously formed coalition governments in the state before the SAD exited the NDA during the protests against three agricultural laws in 2021. However, in the 2022 elections, both parties faced significant losses, with SAD and BJP securing only three and two seats, respectively, while AAP achieved a remarkable victory with 92 seats.

As the elections draw closer, the Congress party has accused the BJP and AAP of collusion. Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding, president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), remarked on Wednesday that the meeting was significant. He emphasized the ongoing 'Strengthening Every Booth' campaign, warning that the BJP and AAP's collaboration could be detrimental, urging vigilance at the polling booths.
