Imphal, August 18: In a significant event, 46 members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)-Taibangngaba faction, including four women, surrendered their weapons and rejoined society during a homecoming ceremony at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal on Tuesday.
During this ceremony, the group handed over 20 firearms, 216 rounds of ammunition, and three explosives, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing peace efforts in Manipur and the reintegration of armed groups into civilian life.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh was present at the event, accompanied by senior ministers, high-ranking civil and police officials, security forces, and other dignitaries.
In his address, Khemchand acknowledged that individuals often resort to armed conflict due to their circumstances and the prevailing conditions. He commended the KCP-Taibangngaba members for positively responding to his call to abandon violence and reintegrate into society.
“Many individuals take up arms due to their situations. However, the KCP (Taibangngaba) has chosen to lay down their weapons in response to my appeal, and I commend their decision,” stated the Chief Minister.
As part of the government's rehabilitation initiative, each returning cadre will receive four fixed deposits and a monthly allowance of Rs 6,000 for three years to aid their transition back into society.
The government has encouraged these individuals to utilize this opportunity constructively, reconnect with their families and communities, and contribute to the state's development.
Additionally, the government and security forces reaffirmed their dedication to fostering a peaceful environment while maintaining the rule of law and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
The ceremony concluded with a call for all parties to collaborate towards achieving peace, reconciliation, and the restoration of normalcy for a secure and prosperous Manipur.
