KC Tyagi's Political Shift

KC Tyagi, a former member of the Rajya Sabha, officially became a part of the Rashtriya Lok Dal on Sunday, just five days after departing from the Janata Dal (United).

His induction into the Rashtriya Lok Dal, which is aligned with the ruling National Democratic Alliance, took place in the presence of Union Minister Jayant Singh, the party leader.

Tyagi reflected on his political journey, noting that he began with the Rashtriya Lok Dal when it was established by Chaudhary Charan Singh in 1974, as reported by a leading news outlet.

He expressed, “I perceive no distinction between Lok Dal, RLD, and JDU. All these parties adhere to a similar ideology. They are rooted in the principles of Charan Singh, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Karpoori Thakur, focusing on social justice and the welfare of farmers.”

Tyagi emphasized his commitment to bolstering the NDA's success, asserting that a robust Rashtriya Lok Dal presence in western Uttar Pradesh would enhance the alliance's strength.

His resignation from JD(U) occurred on March 17, following the election of party leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to the Rajya Sabha. Kumar, who recently took office as chief minister for the tenth time, is anticipated to resign after his Upper House election.

In his statement, Tyagi confirmed the end of his JD(U) membership and his decision not to renew it, noting that JD(U) is also part of the NDA.

He stated, “My dedication to the broader ideological principles concerning the interests of the marginalized, farmers, and agriculturalists, including the underprivileged sections of society, remains unwavering.”

Previously, Tyagi had shared his immense respect for Kumar but indicated he was seeking new political opportunities in Uttar Pradesh under a different party's banner.

Tyagi has held significant roles within JD(U), including chief national spokesperson and national secretary general, and was serving as a political adviser after being removed from his spokesperson position in September 2024.

JD(U) had distanced itself from several of Tyagi's statements, including those regarding the Uniform Civil Code and the conflict in Gaza, and had expressed disapproval of his call for a Bharat Ratna for Kumar, according to reports.
