Kataka Panthers Ready for Odisha T20 League 2026

Equipped with a dynamic mix of experienced players and promising young talents, the Kataka Panthers are primed to reclaim their title in the Odisha T20 League 2026. The champions of Odisha cricket officially kicked off their campaign with an energetic welcome ceremony and the unveiling of their official team anthem, organized by franchise owner Jay Bharat Spices Pvt. Ltd. at their facility in Ramdaspur, Barang, Cuttack.

With spirits high and strategic plans in full swing, the Panthers are determined to face the challenges ahead and aim for consecutive championship victories. The tournament, sanctioned by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), is scheduled to take place from September 20 to September 29, 2026, at the historic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

Representing one of Odisha's oldest cities, which has a rich history spanning over a millennium, the Panthers carry the passion of countless cricket fans throughout the state. Leading this legacy is their captain, Biplab Samantaray, who has previously played for Deccan Chargers Hyderabad and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and has made a notable impact in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Panthers will commence their title defense against the Sambalpur Warriors in the tournament's opening match on September 20.

Captain's Insights

Biplab Samantaray, the captain of the Kataka Panthers, emphasized the team's unity, focus on the tournament's dynamics, and their relentless drive. "Being the defending champions is a significant honor, but it also comes with great responsibility and no room for complacency. The overwhelming support from the Bharat Masala family has energized our team. In this competitive 17-match tournament featuring strong teams like Sambalpur Warriors, Bhubaneswar Tigers, Puri Titans, Keonjhar Miners, and Rourkela Steelers, every match is crucial," he stated.

"Our objective is to start strong, maintain consistency, and secure a top position to earn a direct spot in the final on September 29. In T20 cricket, one cannot afford to underestimate any opponent—world-class teams have stumbled unexpectedly. We have assembled a powerful squad that combines aggressive hitters, versatile all-rounders, and skilled bowlers. Each player is committed and ready to give their all to bring home consecutive championships for Cuttack," he added.

Coach's Strategy and Vision

Head Coach Pravanjan Mullick echoed the captain's sentiments, highlighting the team's readiness, strategic approach, and player development. "Bharat Masala has shown immense faith in this team, and after winning the trophy last season with Biplab leading on the field and myself coaching from the sidelines, our chemistry is strong. With only 17 matches determining the championship, each game is essentially a knockout. All five rival teams will come out with the intent to dethrone us, which is why we have crafted a dynamic and adaptable lineup capable of handling the pressure at Barabati," he explained.

"Beyond defending our title, this league serves as a fantastic platform for our players, with national scouts and IPL representatives observing every match. It has been a while since players from Odisha made it to IPL teams, and our boys possess the talent, mental strength, and determination to change that. We are ready to take charge from the very first match on September 20 through to the final on September 29," he concluded.

Franchise's Vision for Odisha Cricket

Susanta Kumar Panda, the Managing Director of Jay Bharat Spices Pvt. Ltd., praised the team's fearless attitude and shared their long-term vision. "Our primary goal is to discover cricketing talent from the grassroots level in Odisha's villages and provide them with a pathway to national and international cricket. As the defending champions, we want our players to invest their heart and soul into the tournament, working towards our ultimate dream of establishing an Odisha IPL franchise," he stated.

Surendra Nath Panda, the Founder and Chairman of Bharat Masala, blessed the players, reminding them of Cuttack's rich thousand-year legacy and the divine blessings of Lord Jagannath that inspire Odisha's warriors to fight fiercely and never give up.
