Kashmiri Pandits Gather for Annual Kheer Bhawani Festival Amid Tight Security
Celebration of Kheer Bhawani Festival in Ganderbal
Today, hundreds of Kashmiri Pandits gathered at the Rajna Devi Temple in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, for the annual Kheer Bhawani festival. The temple area and the routes leading to the pilgrimage site were secured with stringent safety measures. Nestled under the shade of towering Chinar trees, the temple attracted devotees from across the country who came to celebrate the festival on the occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami. Many devotees were seen walking barefoot, carrying rose petals, and singing hymns as they approached the main temple complex.
Devotional Practices and Rituals
Upon reaching the temple, the devotees offered their respects. Male pilgrims took a dip in the stream flowing near the temple. Inside the temple complex, worshippers presented 'Kheer' at the sacred spring as part of their prayers. It is believed that the color of the water from the holy spring indicates the current state of the valley. While most colors hold no significant meaning, a dark or black hue is considered an ominous sign for Kashmir. This year, the water appeared clear and milky white, prompting prayers for peace and brotherhood in the valley.
Official Participation and Community Spirit
Meanwhile, Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, also participated in the rituals at the Kheer Bhawani Temple on Monday, praying for peace and prosperity in the Union Territory. He reviewed the arrangements made for the pilgrims and expressed satisfaction over the increased number of visitors compared to previous years. In a conversation with reporters, he stated, "We pray to Mata Kheer Bhawani for continuous peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir." Sinha assured that the administration had made adequate provisions for the devotees, adding, "We pray that her blessings always remain with the people."
Community Welcomes Pilgrims
Local residents opened not only their doors but also their hearts to the visiting devotees. Many pilgrims expressed their appreciation for the excellent arrangements made by the administration, highlighting the outstanding security measures in place. "There is no doubt that the security arrangements are very good; we felt no fear. The atmosphere is very pleasant," they remarked. This annual festival has always been a true example of Hindu-Muslim harmony, with every Kashmiri eagerly anticipating it throughout the year. Muslims also look forward to this occasion to meet their Pandit brothers.
