Stringent measures were implemented to ensure peace, as intelligence reports indicated the presence of active terrorists in the region. A Transformative New Year Celebration in Kashmir

Kashmir's Lal Chowk, once quiet after 7 PM, transformed dramatically on the night of December 31, 2025. The area buzzed with celebrations as locals and tourists from across the globe gathered to welcome the New Year, reveling in lights, music, and joy. Amidst this historic change, stringent security measures were in place. The presence of security forces, vigilant monitoring, and thorough checks conveyed a clear message: any attempt to disrupt peace and festivities would not be tolerated.

Robust Security Measures in Place

Security forces are firmly positioned to thwart any terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. A comprehensive security blanket has been established from the Chenab Valley to major tourist spots in Kashmir. The message is clear: any plot to disturb the celebratory atmosphere will be crushed at its roots. In the higher regions of the Chenab Valley, including Doda, Kishtwar, and Bhaderwah, the army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have significantly increased their vigilance. The once snow-covered, remote mountains that provided refuge for terrorists are now proving to be their downfall.

Intelligence Reports on Terrorist Activity

According to intelligence assessments, 30 to 35 Pakistani terrorists are reportedly active in the forests of the Jammu region. With the upper passes closed, there is a concern that terrorists may shift to lower areas, prompting extensive search operations in high, mid, and upper mountainous regions. Large-scale anti-terrorism operations have been ongoing in the Chenab Valley, Rajouri, and Poonch since last week. The focus of security forces is clear: to deny terrorists any breathing space and dismantle their support systems entirely.

Heightened Vigilance During New Year Celebrations

Police officials have indicated that terrorists might exploit the weather and geography to carry out attacks during the New Year celebrations, which is why security has been tightened at every possible route. A multi-layered security system is in place, especially at tourist destinations within the valley. Comprehensive vehicle checks, increased patrols, and strict surveillance are ongoing at all major entry and exit points, ensuring heavy deployment of security forces wherever New Year festivities are taking place.

Significant Strikes Against Terror Networks

Meanwhile, decisive action against terror networks has emerged from Kathua district. In 2025, 39 Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were identified, with 18 facing action under the Public Safety Act (PSA). These individuals do not directly engage in armed conflict but provide financial support, shelter, and information to sustain terrorism. The arrests of seven individuals in connection with four terrorism-related cases, along with the elimination of two terrorists, indicate that operations are targeting not just the front lines but also the roots of terrorism. Bhaderwah MLA Dalip Singh Parihar remarked that the peaceful New Year celebrations are a testament to the continuous sacrifices and dedication of the army and police.
