Kashmir Educational Institutions Shut Down Amid Protests Over Cleric's Death
Closure of Schools and Colleges in Kashmir
Srinagar: In response to ongoing protests following the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a coordinated airstrike by Israel and the United States, all educational institutions in Kashmir will remain closed until March 7, 2026. This announcement was made by Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Tuesday.
Initially, the government had decided to close schools and colleges for two days starting March 1 due to escalating protests.
Demonstrations against the death of the prominent Shia cleric have persisted for three days, with thousands of individuals participating in rallies across various regions of Kashmir, particularly in Srinagar.
The protests have been most intense in areas with significant Shia populations.
