Karti P. Chidambaram's Vision for 2026

On Friday, Congress MP Karti P. Chidambaram outlined his governance priorities for 2026, emphasizing the need for increased police patrols and improvements in civic infrastructure to enhance daily life. In a post on X, he shared his aspirations for Tamil Nadu, stating that these are not exhaustive. He called for heightened police presence and investigations to bolster public safety, better waste disposal systems, and effective solid waste management. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of reducing the number of stray dogs and cattle on the streets to create a cleaner and safer environment.

Addressing Road Safety and Upcoming Elections

Chidambaram also stressed the necessity of measures to decrease fatal road accidents and improve overall road safety. He advocated for pothole-free roads to ensure smooth and comfortable transportation. The elections for all 234 assembly members in Tamil Nadu are anticipated to take place in April-May 2026. Prior to this, Shashikala Natarajan, a former AIADMK leader and close associate of the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, sharply criticized the ruling DMK, asserting that dynastic rule in the state would soon come to an end, paving the way for a government that serves the people.

Criticism of DMK's Governance

During a press conference, Natarajan accused the DMK of a continuous rise in crime since they came to power. Referring to a recent attack in Tiruttani, she claimed such incidents reflect the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. She extended New Year wishes to everyone, predicting that this year would mark the end of dynastic governance in Tamil Nadu and the emergence of a people's government. Numerous criminal incidents, including the Tiruttani attack, have occurred since the DMK took office. The Chief Minister, who oversees the police department, has yet to respond to this incident, which she argues indicates a lack of governance capability.

AIADMK's Critique of DMK Administration

Earlier, AIADMK leader R.B. Uday Kumar had also criticized the DMK government, claiming that the quality of governance in the state has significantly declined under their rule. He pointed out that property taxes, electricity charges, water fees, and waste management taxes have reached unprecedented levels during the DMK administration.
