MANDI:
Karsog, a picturesque town nestled in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district, has long sought an enhancement in its educational facilities. That aspiration has now been realized with the establishment of the Apna Pustakalaya, a significant milestone for the region's youth, thanks to the vision of the Himachal Pradesh government and the relentless efforts of the Mandi district administration.
Located within the newly built Joint Office Building, this library serves as more than just a study area; it is a gateway to knowledge. With an investment exceeding Rs 22 lakh, the library accommodates 100 students simultaneously, providing a serene and motivating environment that is often hard to find in the remote hills. For many aspiring students, it has quickly become a reliable venue for exam preparation and academic development.
The initiative aims to bridge the educational gap between students in remote areas and those in urban centers by providing access to high-quality academic resources. The library features an e-library section, three computers, high-speed internet, and a wealth of online learning materials, marking a significant advancement in digital education for the region.
In addition to its digital offerings, the library boasts an impressive physical collection of nearly 5,000 books spanning various subjects. From NCERT and school-level resources to materials for competitive exams like HAS and IAS, as well as fields such as medicine, engineering, agriculture, law, and fashion design, Apna Pustakalaya has become a vital academic resource for Karsog and its surroundings.
What sets this initiative apart is the community's active involvement. The library is managed by enthusiastic young volunteers rather than appointed staff. Contributions from local NGOs, philanthropists, successful exam candidates, and administrative officials have enriched the library's offerings. This collaboration highlights the power of community and government working hand in hand to create lasting change.
Today, Apna Pustakalaya shines as a beacon of education in the mountains. What started as a vision under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has evolved into a vibrant hub that will influence the futures of many students. The district administration's commitment has transformed this library into a center of knowledge that will guide generations to come.
Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan emphasizes the goal of fostering a high-quality study environment that encourages reading and aids students in their competitive exam preparations. Similar libraries are being established throughout Mandi district to ensure that premium educational resources are readily available to students in remote areas.
