Leadership Transition in Karnataka

Bengaluru: On Thursday, Karnataka's Law Minister H K Patil announced that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to resign, with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar poised to succeed him.

Following a breakfast meeting with the chief minister, Patil, who also oversees Parliamentary Affairs, stated that Siddaramaiah plans to visit Lok Bhavan to submit his resignation. This leadership change aligns with directives from the Congress high command.

Patil informed the media, "The Chief Minister has indicated, based on discussions with the high command, that he will step down... There is no dissent; it is a unanimous decision, and everyone agrees with the high command's instructions."

The party leadership has instructed that Shivakumar be elevated to the chief ministerial position, and necessary procedural actions will be initiated during the upcoming legislature party meeting.

Sources from the Chief Minister's Office revealed that Siddaramaiah requested an appointment with the governor following the high command's directive for a leadership transition in the state.

However, sources at Lok Bhavan indicated that Siddaramaiah has yet to schedule a meeting with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently in his hometown of Indore, Madhya Pradesh for personal matters.

When questioned about the possibility of the chief minister submitting his resignation to the Lok Bhavan secretary, an official responded.
