Siddaramaiah's Firm Stance on 2028 Elections

On July 27, in Mysuru, Karnataka Minister Yatindra confirmed that his father, senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah, remains resolute in his decision not to contest the upcoming 2028 assembly elections. Yatindra expressed that, as a son, he has no intention of persuading his father to change his mind. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing his father's health, especially as Siddaramaiah approaches the age of 80.

Just a day prior, Siddaramaiah cited his advancing age and the deteriorating state of politics as reasons for his withdrawal from the 2028 elections, prompting Yatindra's remarks. Nevertheless, Yatindra assured that the former Chief Minister would continue to engage in active politics, advocating for the marginalized sections of society. He stated to reporters, “My father has previously mentioned this.”

Even during his tenure as Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah had indicated that he would not run for the 2028 assembly elections. Yatindra noted that this decision has already been made, and it is essential for everyone to respect it. When asked about the increasing pressure from supporters for Siddaramaiah to reconsider, Yatindra reiterated that despite stepping back from electoral politics, his father would remain involved in addressing issues affecting the oppressed and vulnerable communities.

When questioned if he would attempt to convince Siddaramaiah to participate in the next elections, Yatindra replied, “Once my father makes a firm decision, no one can change it.” He added, “As a son, I also wish for my father to focus on his health rather than neglect it for work and other commitments at the age of 80.”

Siddaramaiah currently serves as the MLA for the Varuna assembly constituency in Mysuru.
