Karnataka Leaders Meet for Breakfast Amidst Power Struggle
Breakfast Meeting Between Karnataka Leaders
In Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently met with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at the latter's residence. This marks their second breakfast meeting amidst ongoing tensions regarding the chief ministerial position. Following their first meeting, which featured traditional dishes like idli-sambar and upma, Shivakumar served hot plates of traditional Nati chicken and idli for this gathering. After the meeting, Shivakumar expressed that both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining good governance in the state.
Commitment to Governance and Development
Shivakumar stated that he reiterated his dedication to good governance and the continuous development of Karnataka during their breakfast meeting. The internal disagreements regarding the chief ministerial position, as outlined in the 2023 power-sharing agreement, prompted this second meeting to avert a broader crisis. Also present at the breakfast were Kunigal MLA Ranganath and Shivakumar's brother, former MP D.K. Suresh.
High-Level Discussions and Political Tensions
This meeting follows a high-level discussion between the two leaders at Siddaramaiah's residence in Cauvery on November 29. Shivakumar described the Saturday meeting as a productive conversation about Karnataka's priorities and future direction, while also being viewed as an effort to ease tensions arising from internal power struggles within the Congress party. Supporters of Shivakumar are advocating for him to be appointed as chief minister for the remaining two and a half years of the Congress-led government, which has intensified political divisions within the party.
Reaffirming Unity Within the Party
During the breakfast, Shivakumar shared on social media that he had a meaningful discussion with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding Karnataka's priorities and the path ahead. However, Siddaramaiah reiterated that his stance remains unchanged. After an hour of enjoying idli-sambar and upma, both leaders confirmed their commitment to unity within the Congress party, agreeing to adhere to any decisions made by the party leadership and to dispel any existing 'confusion'.
