Karnataka Government Promises Action Following Chinnaswamy Stadium Tragedy

In the wake of the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which claimed 11 lives and injured over 50, Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has vowed to take decisive action against those responsible. The incident occurred during a celebration for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory. A status report submitted to the High Court revealed that the event organizers failed to secure the necessary permissions, leading to the police's denial of approval. Despite this, RCB promoted the event, inviting fans to attend. The government is awaiting further reports before making any conclusions.

Government Response to Stadium Stampede

On Thursday, Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao emphasized that strict measures will be implemented against those accountable for the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which resulted in 11 fatalities and over 50 injuries.

Following the submission of a status report by the Siddaramaiah administration regarding the June 4 incident, which occurred after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebrated their inaugural title in the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rao stated, "This is not about assigning blame. If there was any mismanagement, we will take appropriate action... Given the loss of life, we must await the report before reaching any conclusions."

The Karnataka government has presented a report to the High Court concerning the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which tragically led to 11 deaths and left more than 50 individuals injured.

The report indicates that the event organizer (DNA) did not obtain formal permission, only notifying the police about the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory parade on June 3 without the necessary approvals as required by a city order from 2009. As a result, the police denied permission for the event.

Despite the police's refusal, RCB continued to promote the event publicly. On June 4, they issued open invitations via social media, including a video message from Virat Kohli, urging fans to join the free-entry celebration, according to the report.
