Karnataka's Bowling Shines in Quarter-Final

In the opening quarter-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the 2025-26 season, Karnataka's bowlers showcased an impressive performance, limiting Mumbai to a total that seems achievable. After winning the toss, Karnataka opted to field first at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The pace attack, spearheaded by Vidyadhar Patil, who took 3 wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs, effectively dismantled Mumbai's batting lineup, leaving them at a precarious 60 for 4 within just 18 overs. Patil's early strikes included the dismissals of Ishan Mulchandani and the formidable Musheer Khan, setting a commanding tone for the match.

Mumbai's Early Collapse

Although Mumbai started reasonably well, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi scoring 27 runs and Ishan Mulchandani contributing 20 runs for a first-wicket partnership of 36, they quickly faltered. The loss of both openers, Musheer Khan (9 runs) and Hardik Tamore (1 run), in rapid succession proved detrimental. Vyshak took the wicket of Raghuvanshi, while Vidhwath Kaverappa claimed Tamore's wicket, further crippling Mumbai's innings.

Mulani's Efforts Fall Short

Shams Mulani, with a commendable score of 86, along with captain Siddhesh Lad, who added 38 runs, attempted to stabilize the innings with a partnership of 76 runs. However, Karnataka's Abhilash Shetty, who took 2 wickets for 59 runs in 10 overs, broke this partnership, leaving Mumbai at 136 for 5 in 33.3 overs. The Karnataka bowlers maintained a disciplined approach, limiting scoring opportunities for Mumbai's batsmen.

While Mulani anchored the innings, he lacked sufficient support from his teammates. Sairaj Patil contributed 33 runs, forming a 52-run partnership with Mulani, which helped Mumbai finish at 254 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. Karnataka entered this quarter-final following a seven-wicket defeat to Madhya Pradesh in their last Group A match, while Mumbai faced a narrow one-run loss to Punjab in their previous Group C encounter.
